ANAHEIM, Calif., USA: Under the guidance and mentorship of Faculty of Extraction Academy and Dr. Gregory Greenwood and Dr. Kianor Shah, an engaged group of 30 dentists from across America, Canada and Australia gathered to participate in the first hands‐on extraction workshop on May 3.
The informative lectures that preceded the practical part of the program included detailed head and neck anatomy, effectively managing patient comfort and healing with pre- and post‐operative medications, suiting techniques and informed consent policies and protocols that enhance the doctor‐patient relationship. The interactive session was enhanced by video demonstrations of live surgeries. The presenters welcomed questions and input from the audience throughout the series of lectures by Drs. Shah and Greenwood.
The hands‐on session allowed the participants to employ some familiar and some new surgical tools, which were supplied by the sponsor Dowell, on pig jaws to practice the techniques that were taught during the lectures.
The course provided participating dental professionals, including two periodontists, a prosthodontist and general practitioners with clinical experience ranging from new graduates to over 20 years’ experience, with valuable information they can use in their practices immediately.
Several of the dentists commented that the time they invested in viewing the Extraction Academy online courses were helpful in preparation for the workshop. The success of this one-day course was proven by at least one in three of the participants’ interest in registering for the two‐day, live patient course.
