The bar has been raised again by Sirona Dental Systems of Charlotte, NC. Sirona unveiled its SIDEXIS 4 software at the Chicago Dental Society’s 150th Midwinter Meeting in February. The software focuses on what’s vital to patient and practitioner: better diagnostics and greater patient comprehension. SIDEXIS 4 makes all visual data available at a glance, simultaneously streamlining the workflow and wowing the patients.
“When patients come in and they see x-rays, first just intraoral digital x-rays, half of them are still saying, ‘My old dentist had film. This is new.’ I say, ‘Really this is not new. You want to see something new?’ Then I pop up my 3D scan on SIDEXIS 4 and … the patients can’t stop looking at it,” says Rich Cooper, DDS, of West Loop Dental Associates in Chicago and SIDEXIS 4 beta tester.
All major formats – intraoral, camera images, panoramic, cephalometric x-rays, 2D, 3D CBCT systems, FaceScanner – are compatible. What’s more, the images are assigned directly to the respective patient file by virtue of SIDEXIS 4 controlling the x-ray unit within the Sirona workflow, saving time and reducing errors. Neal Patel, DDS, of Infinite Smiles in Powell, OH, calls SIDEXIS 4 “the ultimate software for importing and exporting images in various formats.”
Sophisticated and intuitive, SIDEXIS 4 creates a revolutionary ease of use for practitioners. For example, the patient timeline feature presents the entire treatment history of a patient at a glance — no searching around or trying to determine chronology — it’s all available at a click of a button. Dr. Patel, who is a user had noted, “Before, if I wanted to view an image taken two or three years earlier of the current area of concern, I would have to close one image to open another. Now I can just scroll through the timeline for the earlier image seamlessly without having to open up folders and search for specific locations.”
Dr. Patel finds that objective anatomical comparisons – especially cone beams – lead to faster diagnoses for him and quicker treatment plan acceptance for the patients. “I can literally drag and drop images to diagnose more quickly,” he says. “It also enables me to better convey my diagnosis to the patient with pictures, which themselves speak a thousand words.”
In the interview, Dr. Cooper mentioned the lightbox, which enables the viewing of all types of images at once, as one of his favorite features. “It’s most impactful for my patients and for my thought organization,” he explains. “Being able to put everything up on the screen at one time makes a huge difference for case acceptance. The patients get the whole picture.” He adds, “And the confidence level and how it makes you a better dentist, you can’t put a price on. You can’t measure it.”
It’s not just the clinicians and patients who benefit from SIDEXIS 4’s capabilities. Other practice employees like it too. Previously, administrative and support staff had to track down the images needed for insurance claims or referrals. “Now they just export it on their own,” says Dr. Cooper. Sounds like a win-win-win.
